China shutters e-scrap shops - Wednesday, July 11, 2007 A massive e-scrap market in South China's Guangdong Province was closed down by law enforcement officials, following reported media exposure. Several tons of e-scrap were seized by authorities. The Huafa Electrical Appliance Market (Foshan) reportedly received 500 tons of e-scrap daily and was a full-service stop handling the import of e-scrap, reassembly, wholesale and distribution, plus the disassembly and shipping of the material to treatment facilities. The market faces water and power cuts if illegal business resumes.
